About Us
SVU TeniSTA
SVU TeniSTA is a student tennis club in Amsterdam which is backed by the sportcentrum of the Vrije Universiteit. We combine the sporty tennis with social activities to try and create a group of likeminded students and tennis buddy’s. TeniSTA has joined the park of ALTC de Aemstelburgh since september 2016, only 10 minutes away by bike from the Vrije Universiteit and/or the Uilenstede campus.
If you are thinking about learning a new sport or improving your tennisgame or simply getting to know more students in Amsterdam, then join us at TeniSTA and enjoy the camaraderie at our club. You can always drop by during a toss if you send a notice to info@tenista.nl first. Then you can judge for yourself whether you enjoy the TeniSTA experience.
Toss
Every week, we organize our fun and informal toss evening at the courts of ALTC de Aemstelburgh, always on Thursday nights. We play short, unofficial matches in random pairings. Scores aren’t recorded, so it’s all about having fun and getting a chance to improve your tennis skills. You might even pick up a few tips from the club’s best players!
Feel free to drop by, hit a few balls, and experience the atmosphere for yourself!
Training
In addition, we offer weekly tennis lessons throughout the year. During the summer season (April to September), lessons take place outdoors on Wednesday evenings at ALTC de Aemstelburgh. In the winter season (October to March), we move indoors to the courts of NTC de Kegel on Friday evenings. This way, you can keep training all year round no matter the weather.
Lessons are given in level-based groups, so everyone can work on their game at the right pace. You’ll not only improve your technique, but also learn strategies to take your play to the next level.

Borrel
Every month, TeniSTA gets together at our regular hangout on Uilenstede: Il Caffè. Over drinks, we catch up on the latest league results and share club news. It’s the perfect place to reconnect, exchange stories, and soak up the TeniSTA vibe.
In addition, we also grab a drink every Thursday evening after the toss at Aemstelburgh. After a night of tennis, there’s nothing better than chatting about the matches over a well-earned refreshment. Whether you join us for the monthly drinks or the weekly toss, you’re always welcome to come along and enjoy the gezelligheid. We look forward to seeing you there!
Comptetition
At TeniSTA, you can join the competition season both in spring and autumn. That means seven Saturdays or Sundays filled with tennis fun as part of a men’s, women’s, or mixed team. For many members, it’s the highlight of the year. You’ll spend several weekends on the court with your teammates — an experience that often leads to lasting friendships.
Picture this: the sun shining, exciting matches, and the thrill of victory. And of course, nothing beats celebrating afterward with a cold beer and a tasty competition platter.
When you play at home on our courts at Aemstelburgh, the atmosphere is even more vibrant. Fellow TeniSTA members are often around to cheer you on and offer tips to keep team spirits high. With all that support, there’s a good chance you’ll come out on top this summer or fall!
Toernooien
One of the absolute highlights of the year is our very own Open Pentecost Tournament! During this event, tennis players from both inside and outside the club come together to compete in a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere. It’s truly an event you won’t want to miss!
Throughout the year, we also organize plenty of other tournaments. For example, there’s our Club Championship, where members battle it out for the coveted club trophy. Who will be crowned champion this year?
We also host the always fun Family & Friends Tournament. Whether your partner has tennis experience or not, everyone is welcome to join for a day full of sport and good vibes.
And recently, we’ve added padel tournaments to the mix! This wildly popular racket sport brings a fresh, competitive challenge to the court and is the perfect way to try something new.

At TeniSTA, the fun doesn’t stop on the court – there’s always something exciting happening off the court too! Throughout the year, we organize plenty of activities to get to know each other better and simply have a great time together. What can you expect?

Weekend Getaways
Each year, we organize two unforgettable weekend trips – the perfect chance to make new friends and enjoy some adventure.
Our New Members Weekend is the ideal way to kick off your TeniSTA journey! It’s a weekend full of fun, laughter, and shared experiences – the perfect opportunity to bond with fellow members and find your place in the club. You’re guaranteed to make memories (and friendships) that will last the whole season.
And in winter? It’s time for our Ski Trip! Whether you’re into skiing, snowboarding, or just the après-ski, this snowy getaway with your tennis friends is a highlight of the year. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or trying the slopes for the first time – it’s all about good vibes and having fun together. After a day on the mountain, we relax with drinks, share stories, and create unforgettable memories.
And during our lustrum year? We even went to Roland Garros with plenty of time to explore Paris too!
